Building Science Technologist
DS Consultants Ltd (DS) is a consulting engineering firm which specializes in geotechnical, environmental, hydrogeology, building science, materials inspection, and testing. Our head office is in Vaughan, Ontario with branch offices located in Barrie/Collingwood and Cambridge. Duties and Responsibilities:
- Interpret contract documentation, drawings, and technical reports of building envelope
- Perform and schedule field inspections and investigations for various types of projects and scopes
- Conduct pre-construction surveys, building condition assessment, and or roofing evaluation
- Prepare field review reports, milestones, final walkthrough deficiency reports etc., and provide input
- Manage project deliverables and activities, handle contract administration for rehabilitation projects
- Perform windows and railing tests for different projects as required by project management team
- Familiar with shop-drawings, technical data sheet and other construction documentations
- Coordinate project delivery, work with team and participants, estimate activities, and conduct tasks as required
- Communicate effectively with clients, contractors, consultants, and team members and develop rapport
- Submit technical and administrative reports in a timely manner and as per company procedures and protocol
Requirements:
- Post-secondary education in relevant Architecture, Building Science or Engineering program
- Experience of 1-3 years in building science or Tarion B19, with a focus on building envelope would be an asset
- Knowledge of building and construction activities, field inspections or cladding assessment
- Familiarity with OBC, NBC and technical understanding of evaluating building components
- Skill in preparation of field review observations, technical specifications or investigations
- Good ethics, people skills and clear verbal communication
- Competence at writing tech. reports, composing clear documents with strong editing and/or proof reading
- Advanced computer skills to produce reports, documents, and various presentations
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office application and Outlook software is essential
- Excellent organizational skills in managing paperwork, priorities and keeping projects deadlines
- Proficiency in software skills including, AutoCAD, and other discipline specific software is an asset
- Valid driver’s License, and insurance as well as access to a registered vehicle
