DS Consultants Ltd. is thrilled to be involved with the Ontario Environment Industry Association (ONEIA), working together with professionals from across Ontario to move policy forward in areas such as excess soils and brownfields. Our own Patrick (Rick) Fioravanti, P.Geo. Vice President Environmental Services and Reese McMillan, Head of Risk Assessment were at ONEIA’s annual Business & Policy Forum May 7, 2025, with Reese co-chairing the Brownfields Roundtable. Other topic options during a very full day of discussions between business and environment professionals along with government policy makers included water and environmental infrastructure, PFAS, excess soils, resource recovery, as well as climate change, energy and labour issues. #BPF2025 #ONEIA

Check out the latest issue of Construction Canada for a thoughtful analysis by our own Vice President of Building Science, Ibrahim El-Hajj, of why In-situ Mock-ups remain a beneficial part of construction methodology even with 3D virtual modelling. By identifying potential challenges not always apparent in drawings, In-situ Mock-ups reduce risk by helping the various trades co-ordinate their activities, increasing the chances of keeping projects on-time and on-budget while maintaining quality and compliance.

We are excited to share that Patrick (Rick) Fioravanti, P.Geo. has been promoted to Vice President - Environmental. An Environmental Geoscientist with over ten years experience, Rick has been instrumental in our Environmental Services. He holds an Honours Bachelor of Science with distinction in Toxicology from the University of Guelph and is a member of APGO - Association of Professional Geoscientists of Ontario.

As the former Manager of Environmental Services, Rick managed Phase One and Two Environmental Site Assessments, soil management, and remediation projects. He has successfully filed over 60 Records of Site Condition and is actively working on 10 Risk Assessment Projects. Rick specializes in using emerging technologies like high-resolution site characterization and contaminant forensics, significantly contributing to our clients’ development objectives.

Rick's extensive knowledge and dedication have greatly benefited our team and clients. Please join us in congratulating him on this well-deserved promotion. We look forward to his continued leadership and success in his new role!🎉

An excellent day of networking and discussion at the annual Ontario Environment Industry Association (ONEIA) Business and Policy Forum in Toronto on May 7, 2024. DS Consultants Ltd. was well-represented by Vice President Environmental Services Patrick (Rick) Fioravanti, P.Geo., Head of Risk Assessment Reese McMillan, and Senior Environmental Engineer Efuange Khumbah. Reese co-moderated a brownfields roundtable that included an engaging policy discussion with Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks staff on possibilities for streamlining the Record of Site Condition and Risk Assessment processes.

Wonderful to see so much progress!  DS was retained by Menkes Developments Ltd. and QuadReal Property Group to complete hydrogeological investigation to support the design of the Bravo towers in the Festival Condos development of the South Vaughan Metropolitan Centre (VMC).  This included drilling large diameter pumping wells and pumping testing to evaluate the aquifer characteristics.  DS is providing a comprehensive pre- and post-construction groundwater monitoring program. https://lnkd.in/gYzj7P2e

We're pleased to have been providing geotechnical consulting services as well as material and inspection testing services for EllisDon Infrastructure Healthcare (EDIH) as they construct the new South Niagara Hospital near the QEW in Niagara Falls. With a full scope of hospital services and 469 single patient bedrooms, this facility is set to become an integral part of the healthcare system in Niagara Region when it opens in 2028. Thanks to Bureau Veritas North America for organizing their Fall Science Summit on Nov. 16.  For one of the case study presentations, our own Rick Fioravanti was pleased to share some of the work the DS Consultants Ltd. team has been doing to remediate hexavalent chromium impacts in groundwater at a former automotive site in Milton.  A successful pilot of a pump and treat program in 2022 resulted in full implementation this past spring.  RSC filing for future residential use is expected in 2024-25.  DS has been providing a full suite of services at this site, including environmental, geotechnical, hydrogeological and materials inspection/testing.

Environmental Services Manager Rick Fioravanti is presenting Thursday, Nov. 16 at this year's Bureau Veritas North America Fall Science Summit. He'll be sharing a case study based on the successful pump and treat program DS implemented for a former Milton industrial site found to be contaminated with hexavalent chromium. He and Head of Risk Assessment Reese McMillan are looking forward to a full day of knowledge sharing. Also on the agenda: new developments in soil vapour intrusion assessment, contaminated site remediation, recent litigation, and more!
